Next Destination Is Pantanal In Brazil

Ecotourism allows cowboys to perpetuate their traditional way of life

Water imposes silence on the horizon like the snow on the winter; not a wrinkle. It reflects the trees and bathe the sky drew. Grasslands are dominated by the sea relentless sun; livestock keepers or vaqueros, navigators who hold tight flange mount their spirit to swim.

Before them, the white mass bristling with horns of the whole troop shuddered when the water reaches the withers zebu. Men and beasts will soon dismounted, on rare islands savings by floods. Each austral summer, so it goes to the Pantanal. From October to February, the largest marsh dark world beneath the flood and rising seas. This inland delta of 210,000 square kilometers -the third of the France stretches mainly on the state of Mato Grosso do Sul in Brazil, the rest Paraguay and Bolivia.

After months of intense drought, the black sky, electric bursts last October. The short but intense rains revived the cracked soil. Freshwater and saltwater lakes of the vast alluvial plain beginning to overflow, followed soon by the streams and rivers from the surrounding plateaus join the Paraguay river tent, despite hills too low to drain the watershed Pantanal. Spoof their waves galore fry, seeds, flowers, and alluvium deposited there all the diversity of Brazil. December: the rains stop, the water continues to rise. By joining, lakes, marshes, lagoons, rivers and channels drown until 8O% in some years, the vast marshes.

This is the time of abundance for the creatures of the Pantanal under a deep blue sky. The fish begin their migration through meadows and return to the secret places of their reproduction; dragonflies passing cloud
above the mirror of the waters; river otters, giant anteaters, armadillos and capybara, the largest rodent, give birth to their young, while the trees the waterfront are covered with fruit. At night, the frogs begin their love song.
